Four-wheel wilderness safari

MONDAY
Four-wheel wilderness safari

Adventures with our Ranger RZRs take you up close to flora and fauna. We drive through forests and wilderness, stopping for a coffee break before continuing on to Jukkasjärvi.

 

Facts: Ranger RZR is atwo-seat four-wheel drive vehicle. Coffee/tea and sandwiches are served during the trip.

Time: Around 2 hours, every Monday.

TUESDAY

Whitewater rafting on the Torne River

Take a day tour along the Torne River. Out on the water, you are alone with nature. The rapids will give you an adrenaline kick, that will make you forget your everyday troubles and trivialities. Mid-journey we take a break on a tiny island to enjoy a wilderness meal in the magical summer daylight.


Facts: About 30 km on the river, Class 2–4 rapids, and an 80-metre drop. A snack is included in the trip. Not suitable for children under the age of 12.
Time: Around 6 hours, every Tuesday.

WEDNESDAY

Cave tour to Kåppasjåkka caves

Join us on an unusual experience inside the mountain and become a speleologist (cave explorer) for a day. We visit one of the longest limestone caves in Sweden at Kåppasjåkka in Björkliden. Its total length is over two kilometres. Equipped with caving overalls and helmets fitted with torches we crawl and squirm past stalactites through tortuous, natural passages. This is a new and exciting world to explore!


Facts: about 4 km (approximately 1.5 h hike) +150/–150 m, path/gravel road and approximately 1–1.5 h crawling. Not suitable for very young children.

Time: Around 6 hours, every Wednesday.

THURSDAY

Excursion to lake Torne träsk and Snurrijokk, lake Torne träsk biosphere

Don’t miss one of the finest mountain day tours. Lake Torne Träsk is the most picturesque mountain lake in Sweden. The walking is easy and there is a tremendous variety of flora to see. The views looking back towards Abisko are memorable. The Abisko mountains and “the gate to Lapland” take on a new and exciting perspective when seen from this side. Up at the cabin we make coffee and eat lunch.

 

Facts: About 12 km (approximately 6 h of hiking), +150/–150 m, path/ no path. Includes coffee, lunch and transport.
Time: Around 8 hours, every Thursday.

Fun on wheels! Family cycling tour by MTB along Rallarvägen in Björkliden

A family cycling tour on mountain bikes along Rallarvägen in Björkliden. Few people know that Björkliden hosted the first Swedish downhill skiing championships in 1987. The ski tracks are gone now but the mountains and paths around Björkliden provide excellent opportunities for cycling. We set off on the historic Rallarvägen trail – originally built to supply materials for the railway. The speed and degree of difficulty are adapted to suit the participants. An enjoyable tour for the whole family.


Facts: About 12 km, +/– 0 elevation in hilly terrain. Lunch included.

Time: Around 4 hours, every Friday.

SATURDAY

Fishing on the Torne River

By riverboat, we set out to explore Sweden’s largest national river, the Torne River. The water of free flowing Torne River is among the purest in Europe. In summer time this is a whirling world of opportunities.


Facts: Fishing trip that starts in Jukkasjärvi.
Time: Around 4 hours, every Saturday.

Låktatjåkko mountain station

SUNDAY

Waffle hike to Låktatjåkko mountain station

Our hike starts after a short train trip west. At a comfortable pace, we make our way via Vargpasset (the wolf pass) up to Låktatjåkko Mountain Station. It’s a 7 km hike to reach our goal where we enjoy a fabulous view while feasting on the famous Låkta Waffles. After
our coffee break we hike down to Björkliden.


Facts: About 16 km. Not suitable for children under the age of 10. Guide, transport and waffles plus beverage is included in the price. We meet at the entrance of Hotell Fjället in Björkliden.

Time: Around 9 hours, every Sunday.
