Our annual Ceremony Hall is located inside ICEHOTEL, and is made completely from ice and snow. Built each winter in a new guise with hand carved art made by carefully selected artists, it is ephemeral and one of the most unique wedding venues you can find. The ceremony hall may melt in the spring and return to the river, but the love that was shared there is eternal.
The ephemeral element adds to the sensation - When no architectural memento exists, the memories and the vows exchanged are especially cherished.
Around 80 ceremonies are held at ICEHOTEL every year, most of which are winter weddings in our ceremony hall. The events range from elopements to bridal parties of up to 40 guests.
Many of the couples prefer our hand-picked wedding package, but we altsp offer the possibility to add products to your package, subject to availability. No matter which option you go for, you will be in safe hands with one of our wedding coordinators who has local knowledge and will guide you through all the important details for your big day.
Icehotel is located 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, in the heart of Swedish Lapland. The seasonal shifts in the area are dramatic, and the indigenous Sami people divide the year into a total of eight seasons. Winter lasts from November until early May, overlapping with the northern lights season which runs between September and April. During the harshest winter months temperatures can drop to -30 degrees Celsius, while April is a strong contender for late winter trips with its long, sunny and mild days.
Snowmobile suits or traditional wedding attire, you decide! Our general advice is to dress warm and wear layers. Included in our wedding packages are premium outer winter clothing that we recommend your guests wear during the ceremony.
In our wedding packages, a warm room is included for the bride and groom, where you have the option to get ready for your big day. We can also offer one of our conference rooms, fully equipped with mirrors with lights, where the bride and her company can get ready.

If you are planning a destination wedding at ICEHOTEL or elsewhere in the Arctic, we recommend you plan for you and your guests to stay a minimum of 2-4 nights. This allows an extra day on site before the big day and gives you some time to recover from the travelling.
On this extra day it is ideal to plan some activities for the group, where you get the chance to get to know each other, as well as offer your friends and family the chance to experience everything the destination has to offer.
Most of our guests choose to depart on the mid-day flight, allowing some time in the morning of your departure to enjoy a healthy breakfast and perhaps a short walk in the fresh air to recover from the party.
International couples getting married in Sweden are legally required to get a written approval by the local authorities to be wed by a religious or civil officiant. Your wedding coordinator will help you handle the corresponence with the Swedish authorities, but you will need to provide ICEHOTEL with a "Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage" from your local registry office, as well as copies of your parrports and birth certificates. We need the documents 12-14 weeks before the wedding date in order to have your permit ready on time.
Yes, we offer civil wedding in our Ceremony Hall. If you wish, we can assist you in finding a wedding officiant for civil ceremonies.
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Sweden since 2008, as the result of the adoption of a new, gender-neutral law on marriage. Sweden was the seventh country in the world to open marriage to same-sex couples. ICEHOTEL welcomes all couples who wish to get married in our Ceremony Hall.
