ART SUITE ÁHKU FÁHCAT

DESIGN ELISABETH KRISTENSEN | ICEHOTEL 35 | AVAILABLE DECEMBER 2024 - APRIL 2025

Áhku Fáhcat means "grandmother's mittens" in the Sámi language.

This art suite is made in honour and celebration of knitting, of the sami colours and craft, and of all the knitting mothers and grandmothers who have created these joyful patterns and mittens.

When entering the room, the first thing you see is the Ákhu - the grandmother - sitting on a stone knitting. Inside the stone, is a mitten in the negative.

ARTIST

ELISABETH KRISTENSEN is a Norwegian/Sámi artist who works with materials such as ice, snow and sand. She spends 200 days every year travelling the world, creating ephemeral works of art. Her works are executed in many different spaces, from the busiest cities to the most remote places on the Arctic tundra. At the center of her work lies the idea that everything is ephemeral - everything is subject to the flow and transformations of life itself.
