Dear creatives, we hope you are all doing well, even during the challenging period the world is experiencing. The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic have not spared Icehotel and Arctic Sweden, and we have been forced to implement serious measures to respond to the current situation. Regrettably, one of this measures is the decision to cancel the International Competition for Icehotel #31.
In November 2020, we will build the 31st version of the original Icehotel, and in order to do so we need to make the planning and the building more predictable and manageable, given the very unstable situation worldwide. Therefore we have decided to invite only artists residing in Sweden, and who have previous experience with the building process. This should allow for a smoother planning period throughout summer, and, at the same time, less demanding logistic during the building period.
We are confident that this decision will ensure the high quality experience Icehotel is known for, and will preserve the tradition of working with art and design. We hope you understand our choice, and that you will consider sending your proposal in 2021, when we will go back to the traditional format with the International Competition for Icehotel #32.
