The phoenix Torneälven has returned from his eternal flow of water and ice. Finding his nest this winter within these snowy walls. Spreading his creative spirit in the present that was once the past, sheltering those who enter his domain. Torneälven represents the past, the present and the future.
MAXIME VAN BESIEN works from his studio in De Haan; a village on the coastline of Belgium where he was born and raised. His main area of work is carving bespoke wooden pieces.
Through the years Van Besien have taken part in many symposiums under the given name "Maximus". He is always looking for a challenge to create unique sculptures to inspire the public, using materials like wood, hay, snow and ice. He describes his public pieces as ways to create and express his vision on different subjects of life.
